Rewetting in a Swedish context, CO2 vs. CH4

Abstract

Currently, rewetting is one of the few climate mitigation practices that are implemented in Sweden, beyond reducing emissions from industry. Although rewetting has been shown to effectively reduce emissions of CO2 from drained organic soils, resources are not yet targeted to those soils that would reduce emissions the most. We have calculated new emission factors for rewetting based on existing data from Northern Europe, which are relevant for Sweden, but also Denmark. These data show that water levels are a determining factor for success due to the strong warming effect of methane on shorter time scales.

The seminar is open to all employees, colleagues and others whom find the topic of interest or relevance.
