Biospace2025 - Biodiversity insight from space

Workshop participants from Biospace2025

BIOSPACE25 is the first international conference exclusively dedicated to the application of Satellite Remote Sensing (SRS) across the various dimensions of biodiversity, and addressing the use of Earth Observations in all realms, from terrestrial, freshwater, coastal to marine ecosystems. The conference took place in Italy from the 10-14 February 2025.

Scientists, policy makers, and practitioners joined in Italy to hear about satellite-based technologies for wetlands.

The Global Wetland Center, together with the European Topic Center on Spatial Analysis and Synthesis (ETC-UMA), had a full room for their workshop on wetland biodiversity, with brilliant presentations by Marc Paganini, Jerker Tamelander, Christelle Vancutsem, Gyula Mate Kovács, Torsten Bondo, and many more.

One key message from the workshop: Earth Observation technologies are on track for large scale studies of wetlands but we need more in-situ data to support process understanding and upscaling.

Well done team for all your great work!
